7th Grade English Updates

  • Quarter 3 Vocabulary

    In the third quarter, the seventh graders will study Wordly Wise lessons 11-15. Every other week, as possible, they will be assigned exercises A-C on Wednesday or Thursday nights, and exercise E to complete over the weekend before the quiz.

    Each quiz is worth 50 points, and two quizzes are added together to equal one 100-point quiz grade. There are two vocabulary quiz grades per quarter and one final vocabulary test on lessons 11-15..

    The students have completed lessons 11 and 12.

  • Quarter 3 Grammar

    In the third quarter, students study the identification and use of phrases in sentences. They look at prepositional phrases and verbal phrases, analyzing their components through annotation and diagramming.

  • Next 7th Grade Class Book

    Seventh graders will soon begin reading A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. This classic novel takes place during the French Revolution, which makes it the perfect subject for a cross-curricular project with the French department! The students will begin their reading of the novel by studying this context and completing their interdisciplinary project.

  • Independent Reading Books

    Seventh graders have selected and are beginning to read their first independent reading books! These are chosen from a list of approved classics, and are designed to encourage students to read a book on their own that they might not ordinarily choose.

    They will have three note checks (10 points each) to verify that they are making progress in their books. The note check assignments will be given as homework and will ask the students questions about their texts. Then, once they have finished reading in February, they will write a book review about their novel. Further instructions for the book review will be given in February.
